A 22 pound animal comes into the clinic that has had diarrhea and vomiting for the last 24 hrs the dog is acting like it is going into shock and is at least 10% dehydrated

How much fluid is needed to rehydrate the animal

1 kg= 2.2 pounds

1 kg= 1 liter of water

  1. It it lost 10% of its body weight, it would have had to weigh 24.4 lbs initially.

    90% of the initial weight would give it a weight of 22 lbs now.

    24.44 minus 22 = 2.44 lbs of lost body weight.

    2.44 lbs = 1.11 kgs.

    1.11 kgs x 1 liter = 1.11 liters or 1110 ml needed.


  2. Its Veternary mathematics; not medical. Animals and humans may have different amount of water in thier bodies.

  3. 10% of 22 pounds would be 2.2 pounds or 1 kg = 1 liter of water.
