My spouse is retired and will be 65 next year. I am 58 and still work and have an excellent health insurance plan that covers us both. I'm trying to figure out what happens when he hits 65. Will he be automatically covered by medicare? Will he get kicked off my plan?

thank you

  1. The way I read the US code ( Title 42- Chapter 7- subchapter XVIII- Part E- Sec 1395y- (b)(1)(A) ) is Medicare is secondary, unless your employer has less that 20 employees. Then Medicare is primary.

Part A is automatic. He will need to enroll in part B when you retire, or risk paying a penalty.
