I just lost my health insurance and am low incomed, that means getting health insurance is hard to do now. My Know it all sister is pestering me telling me to apply for Medicare/ not Medicaid. I know that if you make just one dollar over what they say you can make you can 't get Medicaide. But she says apply for Medicare. I think that you must be over 60 or 65 or either handicapped and I am neither. Can one still apply. I keep telling her no, but she keeps saying YES. I wish that someone sets her straight, since she won't listen to me. Can anyone?

  1. Medicare is a health insurance program for:

        * people age 65 or older,

        * people under age 65 with certain disabilities, and

        * people of all ages with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant).

  2. You are right Medicare is for over 65. Medicaid is for the people in abject poverty the rest of us must find our own insurance and pay for it. You can get COBRA when you first lose a job but finding a new job with insurance is your best bet.

  3. medicare is only for people who are over 65, or disabled, or have end stage renal disease.

    You can try medicaid...
