Question:

Medication in hand luggage for flights?

I'm going away with my dad for a weekend. Rather than taking a suitcase we're just going to take hand luggage. I have to take tablets to control my periods and I am unsure about the rules for this. I don't want the security to pull them out of my bag because it would be very awkward and then my dad might get the wrong idea. If I put them in the correct packaging with the label on saying what they are, will it just go through the x ray machine without me having to put them in a clear plastic bag?

Thanks

  1. You could always try looking on the website for the airport which you are travelling from, if you don't really want to discuss it with anyone.

They tend to keep updated rules on what you can and can't take in your hand luggage.

I travelled with medication, although it was last august, and it was fine, but in small quantities, I didn't have to put them in a plastic bag.

  2. Hi claire if i were you i would ask youre travel agent about this i am sure they know all the rules and regulations for this matter although i am positive it is only liquids that you cannot carry onboard unless you taste it in front of security,i think you will be ok with youre tablets but best to check or ring the airport and ask for all the info on what you can and cannot take, enjoy youre hols .

  3. if your bag is pulled for search you can ask for a private bag search away from your father.

  4. When I have traveled with pills in my hand luggage I have never had any problem with them.

  5. Medication is not a problem as long as it's in the original packing.  The worst that will happen is that customs will ring a doctor to check that the meds match the condition.

  6. Depends on the Customs official. I have to take a lot of medication when I go abroad. Sometimes it goes straight through but one time the official pulled it all out, including a nebuliser, and asked me all sorts of stupid questions. I think he thought the nebuliser was some sort of oxygen container. Apart from the embarrassment, he made me repack it all, holding up the queue. Also it is illegal to take certain every day meds for headaches to certain countries, so check it out with your travel agents.

  7. I have travelled alot through airports with medication in my carry-on.  I always keep it in the original container, but sometimes I even toss different things into the one bottle.  I have never ever had any one pull it out to look inside the bottle or question it in any way.

You don't have to put them in the pastic bag because they are not liquids.

    You'll be fine.
