I am prescribed clorazepate by my doctor for a nervous stomach.

Will trucking companies allow me to take this prescription?

  1. This medication is a benzodiazepine, in the same class as Valium, Ativan, Xanax, etc.  I would be careful driving with it as they can all cause drowsiness.  I would check company policies regarding the use of prescription medications.  The obvious concern is that if you were in an accident, whether or not your fault, and you were on this medicine, a smart lawyer could argue this was an impairment.  I would also check DOT regulations about the use of prescription drugs.  My hunch is that it will not be an issue if you take it intermittently and not while driving.

  2. I think you will be able to take this. I would make sure how you react to taking it first and I think it takes a couple of weeks before you get the full affect of the medication.

  3. Does it make  you dizzy or sleepy? Is it a narcotic?

If so then no. Otherwise you should be fine.
