Question:

Medication side effects. Is this normal?

I am on extremely high doses of Xanax (legally). I take 2mg XR in the AM & then 3mg XR b4 bedtime. I also take Pro Som (2mg) It doesn't happen of ten but sometimes i confuse time. For example: I will wake up 7:30 & not remember whether it's am or pm until I turn on the TV or look at a clock saying AM or PM. Is this just a weird side effect? Should I talk to my Dr? Problem is I can't NOT take Xanax. I won't specify what disorder I have but I would be nuts ( even more so) w/o it.

Any ideas about what is causing this "time confusion" will help mostly. Thanks,

  1. I think it is normal to have the "am/pm" confusion upon wakening for anyone, especially if sleeping long and deep. I know I have this occasionally. Since this sounds like it happens often enough to bother you, talk to your Dr. But I think you are just disoriented because your sleep is deep: maybe it is a side effect of the medicine and maybe not. Only you and your Dr. can decide if the benefits outweigh the side effects.

  2. I get this from time to time. It is just a side effect of the medication. I'm on Thorazine and Lithium, so I can understand.

  3. Xanax can cause a little confusion or disorientation. No big deal.

Heck I don't take none of that stuff and most of the time I can't figger out where I've been, or where I'm going, or how I got to where i am. I stop halfway on the stairs & don't remember if I'm going up or down. I get in the middle of a room and don't know if I just came in or if I'm starting out. In the bathroom, I can't remember if I just got up, or was fixing to sit down, or if I just needed to stand. I get confused at dusk and dawn, I don't know whether the day is coming or going. Course, with me, it's called Old Age.... or is that Old timers?
