Question:

Medication specifically for your period?

I am looking for some type of medication that will get rid of my period, besides birth control. I am on the depo and it does its job well of getting rid of my period but I get other side effects like depression that makes it questionable as to whether i want to stay on it. I don't want kids, and I'm not sexually active. Is there ANYTHING ELSE that I can take that will get rid of my period like depo does?

  1. a hysterectomy

  2. If Depo gives you undesireable side effects it is very likely anything else will too, such as the pill, plus it won't stop your period as effectively.  You could try taking some medication for depression, but then you can get into another whole set of side effects. Unfortunately there is no perfect answer.  Even a hysterectomy may require estrogen replacement.

  3. Talk to your doctor or at a women's health clinic... I seem to remember hearing about a birth control pill that you just take that works differently from the traditional pills (which were 21 days of hormones, and then 7 days off - the 28 day packs just had 7 sugar pills, while the 21 packs you would stop taking for a week).

The new pill has 21, and you stay on them, you don't go off for a week.  The result would be that you would not get your period.

Ask the doctor or health care provider where you get your depo, because they would know about it and be able to prescribe it to you if it's available in your country.

  4. I don't know about a medication, but a procedure by your ob-gyn called an endometrial ablasion can reduce or eliminate your period. Takes 5 minutes in doctor's office. How old are you, though??  How can you be so sure that you don't want kids?
