Medicinal Compound to have the remedy at Leicester

With the ground turning heavy at Leicester, Duquesa looks like a good bet in the first division of the Haymarket Nursery Handicap.

She did struggle at Kempton on Saturday on the all-weather but that was over a mile and the drop back could suit seven furlongs. What you have to look at is her two runs before that where she won a 17-runner nursery at Nottingham over six furlongs. That was on heavy ground and she held her form next time out at Kempton over the same trip.

If she bounces back today over the shorter trip she’ll be hard to beat on the mud.

Medicinal Compound could have the remedy in the Leicester Racecourse Conference Centre Handicap if he runs to his best form on the heavy ground. The gelding won at a canter on heavy ground at Newcastle last time out, winning by 11 lengths, and if he doesn’t idle like he’s done in the past he could upset some better horses here.

If Green Destiny handles the mud the William Haggas gelding should be in the frame. His maiden win came in July on better ground than this with his gelding operation the reasoning behind the prolonged absence. If he finds the form he showed in his maiden at Haydock – the four horses behind him have all gone on to win – then he’ll be in the frame, although much is dependent on how he handles the ground.

At Southwell Bivouac could defy a career high mark to claim his fifth win at the course this year in the Betdaq The Betting Exchange Handicap. He finished second at Wolverhampton last time in what was a career best effort and though he’s up in the weights again today, you can still expect a strong run from the six-year-old. The 12-furlong trip may be too short for this horse but a 44% strike-rate at the course cannot be ignored.
