How much iron would it take to kill a 155 lbs., 5'11", 15 year old?

If possible, please provide the dosage in milligrams. If not possible, provide it in which ever measuring system you use.

Thanks

No, I'm NOT contemplating killing myself or anyone else. I just find this interesting seeing as, on the bottles of multi-vitamins, it says "Keep out or reach of children. This package contains enough iron to seriously harm a child."

  1. A fatal dose for children could be as little as 600 milligrams.

Iron can be poisonous and if too much is taken over a long period could result in liver and heart damage, diabetes and skin changes.

  2. Iron is one of the leading causes of accidental overdoes in children.

I'm not sure of the exact doseage, but if it is being given in an IV and signs of OD start to occur, decreasing the rate on the pump usually relieves symptoms.

There is an antidote for iron overdose - Deferoxamine
