  1. Your friend is right. You should NOT take tetracycline with milk or yogurt or other Dairy products.

Dairy products significantly reduce absorption of tetracyclines (Ranging from 27 to 65% depending on the type of tetracycline). So, be more careful to exactly follow all the instructions given along with your prescription.

You may find information in the attached article useful.

  2. Usually and for most patients,Tetracycline is not to be taken with any kind of antacids like milk. However, a doctor might not see any harm in it based on the patient's diagnosis and health. Otherwise try to wait for 3 hours each, before and after, eating the medication that you drink milk.

  3. Dairy products can interfere with the absorption of tetracycline into the blood stream. So, you may not get the maximal benefit from that dose.  Other than that, there is no harm.

  4. You'll die!

Actually, the most you can risk is really a day without antibiotic. Unless you are suffering from necrotic fasciitis or have HIV/AIDS, you'll survive.

Tretracycline should not be taken with milk because it chelates (binds) with cations in milk (calcium ions) causing it to pass right through your digestive tract.

This means that for one dosage period, the bacteria will have a free day... The most a fairly healthy person can risk is aiding in the creation of a resistant bacterial strain

However, I doubt that this will kill you.

Are you sure your doctor didn't prescribe Doxycycline (it's basically the same as tetracycline but will NOT react with milk)

Basically, try to avoid anything with milk, aluminum hydroxide, calcium ions, and magnesium ions. This includes whatever supplement you are currently taking.

    Hope you get better soon!

  5. It will not harm you, but it will just make it harder for the tetracycline to be absorbed by the body, therefore produces slower action. Just drink water with it next time.
