  1. you could be a medievil pilgrim on the way to Bawburgh to pay homage to st Walstan,an 11th century peasant. or ipswich to see the virgin mary's milk.

or you could be a monk, frair or canon maybe a knight templar or a trinitarian.who specialised in offering themselves up for ransom in place of a christian soldier.

You could also opt for a noble such as Matilda the empress or Eleanor of aquitaine, the most beautiful woman in chrisondom.

  2. Although not royalty what about Joan of arc.

  3. first up: if you have long hair, just be a young girl - who wore hair loose - and a simple caftan-style dress is the closest to mediaeval style. Put a belt on it and a heavy bead necklace, flat boots and bright coloured stockings(tights)and you'll look like almost any girl of the time 11th-16th centuries. Fashion may have changed but the basic garb didn't.

If you need to hide your hair, get a long scarf, drape it over your head, cross under chin and round the neck, tie at the back. Put a broad brimmed hat or square veil over that and there you are.

If you want to wear a circlet - flat tiara - just put that over the veil.

    have fun!!!!

  4. Some interesting women in the medieval period include:

Matilda, daughter of Henry I of england, who should have been Queen of england, but was done out of it by her cousin Stephen, and spent many years fighting him.

eleanor of Aquitaine, who was wife of King Henry II of england, and after his death acted as regent for her son Richard I when he was away on crusade, and helped to prevent his brother John from seizing the throne.  She had quite an exciting life too.

Marie de France, famous French poet

Hildegarde of Bingen, a German nun who was a famous writer and philosopher and also composed music.

Beatrice, who was the inspiration for Dante's Divine comedy.

Joan of Arc, the French peasant girl who led the French army to victory against the English in the Hundred years War.

Christine de pisan, the first woman to earn her living as a professional writer.

Margaret of Anjou, the 'she wolf of France' wife of King Henry VI of england, during the turbulent period of the Wars of the roses she was de facto ruler of England for many years as her husband was insane.

I do not agree with the person who said that being a royal wife sucked.  Queens often had to act as regents fo rtheir hsubands while they were away, and would be expected to be knowledgeable in diplomacy and even the art of warfare if it was necessary.  They certainly did not spend all their time doing stupid dances, as a comment above says.

  5. Like said above, Joan of arc is a good one.

but do you HAVE to be someone of royalty?

because if not, you could easily do one of the worker women, without whom the world would have....stopped

Women did alot of very important jobs. Weaving of fabrics, making of clothes. There would have been women working in kitchens and all the other jobs generally thought of as "girly"

But, if you want to break with tradition, you could be a female blacksmith, or armourer. Many women learned their husbands trades, so that in the event of his death, they could carry on the family business.

If you want you could go even further, and be a women soldier. There was a point in the middle ages were a large portion of many armies were made up of women. technically they werent allowed, but hey, if ur a general, and you have a chance to get more soldiers, are you going to be complaining?????

Personally, i would vote for one of the poorer, worker women. Honestly, being a royal woman in the middle ages would SUCK. You would have spent your entire time doing stupid dances, and tapestry. Other than that your main roll was to provide and heir. REALLY exciting life.

anyway, thats about as much as i can think of right now...hope i provided food for thought.
