Medinah will be easier than a major – Davis Love III
The Ryder Cup has not started yet but the USA team captain Davis Love III has already started physiological games. In a recent statement by the veteran, he has said that Medinah golf club will be easier than a major.
Love has already expressed his wishes – that he wants the course to be less rough and the greens to be quicker. This would have clearly favoured the Americans.
However, all is yet to be seen and once the Ryder Cup starts, things will become clear.
"It's going to look like a major championship because Medinah is a big old golf course, with big trees and obviously big tents," Love said on Monday, at Sea Island Golf Club.
Love knows that the atmosphere will be similar to that of in a major event, but it would be more nervy and tense.
However, Davis Love III has played a clever move and calmed the nerves of his players by saying that this tournament will be easier than a major.
He stated, "It's going to look like a major, but it's going to play probably easier than a major. That benefits our team. We're a long-hitting, freewheeling, fun-to-watch team. And I think it's going to be fun to watch".
This clearly shows the experience which Love possesses. He is probably the right man to lead an experienced USA team, which will be up against the mighty Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy has been on a dream run lately, with three victories in four starts, which includes a major as well.
Lee Westwood countered Love by saying that he has never seen a set up which favours one team.
"I've yet to see a setup that favours one team or the other," Westwood said two weeks ago, at Crooked Stick. "You can play on a field that's 200 yards wide. It's who holes the most putts".
PGA Tour is played on faster greens, generally, than the Europeans’. That is the reason why Love is hoping for faster greens at Medinah.
This, however, can backfire as well, as eight of the Europeans also play on the PGA Tour. Nevertheless, Davis Love III knew the whole scenario and he has chosen players who are really hot putters.
This Ryder Cup will be very interesting, as both the teams are equally balanced out.
