I had this thing called a schorma (I think thats what it wa called) at a mediteranean restaurant. It was kind of like a wrap and had chicken or lamb with cucumbers, some kind of sauce and other veggies. Does anyone have the recipe for these? They were delicious

  1. They are good.  As to a recipe, most of the really good ones are made without a recipe, and the dressing can vary.

  2. Hi, its Shawerma, its a Middle Eastern dish, taken from the Turkish language; I would assume we copied it when the Turks ruled the Arabic Countries. The popular ones are beef or chicken.

you can simply prepare it at home, all you need it pita bread " the thin ones" cucumber "or hot green pepper" pickles. and a garlic with taheene sauce (One big spoon of Taheene, a glove of finely chopped garlic . one cup of yoghurt)

Hummus is not part of the sandwich, it can be served as a side"although I see a lot of places in the west add it inside"

You can cook it at home, with chicken "or beef" strips , get the ready Shawerma spices" available in any Arabic Ethnic store " marinade overnight, cook in a pan over medium heat till its tender.

Open the Pita, put a little bit of Taheene sauce, chicken or Beef, pickles and roll it ...for beef, although I dont favor that, its very common to add thin slices of fresh red onion.

Olives, more pickles, french fries, fresh slices of tomato and cucumber...etc can be served with it

  3. i had the same quest once i tried one from a food cart in new york city.  it's shawarma.  they also have a hot sauce to put on it along with the white sauce.  now that you know the spelling, you should be able to find multiple recipes, but here's one.
