  1. I prefer a very simple, yet powerful meditation covered in the article 'Effortless Meditation' in the Other Work section of http://www.awaken2life.org

Also of possible interest is a 15-minute podcast episode called 'The Art of Meditation' (ep. 6) on the same site under Podcasts (OOM).

No breathing technique is involved...just breathe naturally.

  2. the trick is usually how deep you breathe. Big deep breaths threw the nose and exhaling threw your mouth is very relaxing because you are letting a lot of oxygen in and then exhaling properly so you don't hyperventilate. if your meditating sometimes it helps to imagine/visualize that as you're inhaling you are letting calm wash threw your body and as you exhale you are releasing all your stress. what also helps is tensing all your muscles as you inhale  and relaxing the muscles when you exhale (or one muscle with each breath starting from you feet and moving up) concentrating on the difference between tensed muscules and relaxed muscules can help you recognise when you are fully relaxed.
