Meeting between League, Players' Association set again for Wednesday -NHL Lockout Update
The National Hockey League (NHL) and labour union spent seven hours in a room on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, and it seems like they are determined to make some significant progress this week as there is reportedly another meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
Both sides have come prepared and are willing to do basically anything at this point to save what remains of the 2012-2013 NHL regular season, but experts are terming this to be no different than what has been happening in the past. It is surprising to see
that both stakeholders have been waiting out this long to come face-to-face, which has cost them millions of dollars in losses up until now.
It all started with the cancellation of the entire preseason when the previous Collective Bargaining Agreement came to an end on September 15, 2012, and forced the NHL to announce another lockout, the second in less than a decade. A major cancellation of
months worth of hockey followed as the NHL killed of weeks of the regular season and most recently, the much anticipated matchup between Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2012 NHL Winter Classic.
There are not many details at the moment what the NHL and Players Association have planned for their next meeting, and as a matter of fact, not much known at the moment either about what went on during their seven hour long meeting on Tuesday.
"Collective bargaining negotiations between the National Hockey League and representatives of the National Hockey League's Players' Association recessed tonight at 10:15 pm.," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said. "With meetings scheduled to resume Wednesday,
the League will not characterize the substance or detail of the discussions until their conclusion."
Fans are seeing this as the final ray of hope of saving what remains of the regular season since if this week does not hold any fruitful progress, it will definitely be easy to say that the whole season will have gone right out of their hands and into thin
air.
Updates should be expected in the next 24-48 hours as both sides meet again.
