Aunts, Uncles, Cousins they will ALL be there! We have been together for about a year now, and this is the first time I will meet EVERYONE. What should I wear to this party/ barbecue? I want to impress them, and look nice, but im not sure if I should wear shorts, a dress, or jeans. Its a family thing and im very nervous. Also, they have a pool, and I have a tattoo. His family is very un-approving of them and I don’t want them to know, so will already be standing out when I don’t join them for a swim. I don’t know what I would talk to his family about in conversation. I also want to bring them something. I was hoping to make an apple pie, or maybe bring cookies, but I cant decide what would be best. Basically I want to make the best impression possible. Thanks

  1. Just act normal.  Don't try too hard to impress them.  If it's a hot day out I would wear a summer dress.  Regarding your tattoo, I don't think you should hide it from them.  They will just have to get over it.  Tattoos are not a big deal.  Let his family start the conversation and it will go from there.  Take some sort of an appetizer..like a cheesball and crackers, or a veggie tray and dip, or a taco dip with some nacho chips.

  2. Wear something casual but cute. Jeans and a nice top would work. If it warm out, you can wear a dress too. As far as your tattoo goes, it's probably a good conversation starter about why you got it and what it means to you. I wouldn't be so afraid about them not liking it, its part of who you are and theyll just have to accept it like your bf has.

You don't have to worry about what to talk about..they will ask you questions and things will just naturally come up. They might ask you about your family, school, work, whatever. Bringing something sounds good, they will be grateful if you bring something. Pie or cookies is a good idea, you don't even have to make it yourself. I bought Italian cookies from a bakery to my bfs family's dinner once and they loved them! But of course, if you prefer to bake it go ahead.

Have fun and don't be to nervous, I'm sure they will love you!
