Meeting someone from Online, is this weird?

So I posted an ad on Craigslist looking for friends, nothing sexual, because I've lost contact with alot of people, and my bf's friends can get boring.. I just wanted a girl to hang out with..

Anyways this girl wrote me back, total sweetheart, have the same interests.. been through alot of the same things in life..

Ive seen her myspace, talked for a while, shes obviously not a serial killer or a fake dude... so no worries there..

But I think it would be nice to meet somewhere and hang out.. Get to talk in person. I thought maybe get coffee but she works at a starbucks so......

How can I suggest something without sounding weird lol Ive never met a friend from the internet before.

Nothing wrong with that.  Just ask her if she wants to hang out and have a cup of coffee some time.   People think that online relationships/dating/friendships are weird.  I have met some very nice people that way.  I always look at it like this:  I am not weird, a serial killer or desperate, so why would I assume anyone else is.  I always give people the benefit of the doubt.

Just ask.  The worst she could say is no.  Besides, she is online too so she wouldnt think it is weird!!

no, meeting online is not weird. Welcome to the 21st century, its a a new day and age and the internet is just another way of doing something. Do you consider it weird to buy something from ebay or amazon instead of going to the department store? same concept.

As far as meeting her somewhere, I would not make it sound like a date, but rather make it sound like something you were going to do anyways and invite her. Also add in some humor to release any nervous or awkward feelings.say something like

" So , tommorow Im going to the park and kick a soccer ball, throw a frisbee,basketball etc etc. Wanna come? It will be alot of fun! and that way I'll know for sure that you arent some 400 lb trucker whose going to tie me up and put me in the basement.What do you think?

P.S. And I will kick your butt at one on one basketball ;p. ( jsut be funny about it even if you arent that good.) "

the benefit of doing something active like a sport is if you ever stop talking,cant think of anything to say, or theres a lull in your conversation, it doesnt become  awkward because you are doing something ( as opposed to just sitting there trying to make conversation.)
