During a typical race weekend. When and where is the best way to meet a Nascar driver up close for as a average run of the fan?

  1. If you really want to meet a driver find out when they will be at a local track somewhere and not at a Nascar track. Most of the Nascar guys are pretty regular people and don't mind shooting the breeze if they have time, which is not on a cup race weekend.

  2. Try hitting up a local track or find out a function that the drivers are doing not at the race track, or maybe on their off weekend that they have, the crowds are a lot less, the souvenir trailers at the tracks are great but it you and zillion other people as well...You can check out on drivers websites where they are doing appearances, you'd be surprised where you can meet drivers, you can get creative, sometimes you can even get up close to them when they are shooting a commerical for their sponsor as well, heck I had a friend even get in as a back ground person, in one of Carl Edwards commericials, and the Chevy Commerical for Impala that Dale Jr did, with Smoke a couple yrs ago..If you do choose the race track try going on friday to qualifying its less crowded...and theres also fan fest at tracks as well, but remember there will be crowds. Do your research, they are out there.

    Go Dale Jr & Hms

  3. Serena,

I know what worked for me at Indy...but then again I had an advantage over many "fans", but it maybe some help.  During qualification and if you can get near the pits.  At Indy I seen many drivers signing through the fence at Indy for those sitting in the paddock.  Many was waiting along the fence near gasoline alley by the gates where the cars entered from the hauler parking,  and along the fence around the motor coach parking.

What made my ticket great was knowing a speedway official and safety worker (not Nascar) who has some authority and get you inside those restricted areas.  My hardship at Indy this year was the Nascar rule change about the pits and garage area.  No long pants, no sleeveless shirts, no entry.  I was able to stay in the pits, but got ran out of the garage area.

Hope that helps and good luck.

  4. Pit pass.

  5. At their suvenier hauler.  If you get pit passes, you can meet some as well.  For, for 'free' check their suvenier hauler to see when/if they are signing.  Some drivers always sign (i.e. Casey Mears, Reed Sorenson, Kurt Busch, etc...), some drivers occasionally sign (i.e. Kasey Kahne) and some drivers never sign (i.e. Dale Earnhardt Jr).

Another "free" way to meet a driver is to check their appearance schedule.  Sometimes, Carl Edwards will sign at an Office Depot, Tony Stewart at Home Depot, etc....
