Meg Bailey triumphs Girls 200m IM gold medal - 2011 Australian State Teams Age SC Championships
Meg Bailey of New South Wales clinched the gold medal of Girls 200m Individual Medley (IM) in the 13-14 years class, on the concluding day of the 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships. The session concluded on Monday, September 19, at
the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra.
With her phenomenal effort in the 200m IM, Bailey improved the age group record by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 16.50 seconds. Her effort was considerably under her own mark of 2 minutes and 18.96 seconds, set by Bailey in 2010.
The record holder was followed by Amy Forrester of Queensland, who remained 1.28 seconds behind and acquired the podium for silver medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 17.78 seconds. Forrester managed a lead of 0.86 seconds over her following swimmer, Elise
Pidutti of New South Wales, who stepped on the podium for bronze medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 18.64 seconds.
Subsequently, Forrester’s team-member, Lauren Rettie completed her swim in fourth place as she posted a time of 2 minutes and 19.41 seconds. Pidutti’s team-member, Abbey Harkin proved her dominance for fifth fastest spot of the event, as she stayed only
0.99 seconds behind her former finisher and completed her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 20.40 seconds.
In the meantime, Queensland’s Taylor Green surfaced as the sixth position holder of the IM discipline and appeared on the finishing wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 20.98 seconds. Green was trailed by Annie Pepper of Victoria, who was nearly three seconds
slower than her and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 23.80 seconds. The last spot of the race was owned by Karlene Pircher of Victoria, as she was 0.20 seconds slower and ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 24.00 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship concluded after the completion of all scheduled events, while the winners received medals for their commendable efforts in the IM swim after the session.
