Meg Bailey wins Girls 100m butterfly gold: Day three – Australian State Teams Age SC Championships
Meg Bailey of New South Wales occupied the gold medal of the 100m butterfly in the 13-14 years old Girls category, on the third day of the 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships. The meet took place on Monday, September 19, at the Australian
Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra.
The 14-year-old Bailey presented her astonishing swim in the dual-lap butterfly swim and occupied the gold medal of the event, by posting a time of 1 minute and 01.20 seconds. Her effort was 0.88 seconds above the age group record of Vanessa Puhlmann of
Queensland, who earned the title of the event in 2010, by posting a time of 1 minute and 00.32 seconds.
The champion was trailed by Jemma Schlicht of Victoria, who remained 1.66 seconds behind her and reached the podium for silver medal, by submitting a time of 1 minute and 02.86 seconds. Luckily, Schlicht remained 0.06 seconds ahead of her closest competitor,
Brooke Krause of Queensland, who settled on the podium for bronze medal by reporting a time of 1 minute and 02.92 seconds.
In the meantime, Krause’s team-member, Lucia Lassman completed her swim in the fourth fastest place. Lassman remained only 0.18 seconds behind her preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 1 minute and 03.10 seconds. She was trailed by Maggie Emmett of Western
Australia, who stayed just 0.24 seconds behind Lassman and ended her swim in a fifth fastest time of 1 minute and 03.34 seconds.
The sixth spot of the race was secured by Bailey’s team-member, Sophie Taylor, who was only 0.15 seconds slower than her and posted a time of 1 minute and 03.49 seconds. Annie Pepper of Victoria and Lucy Tabrett of New South Wales were sighted as the seventh
and eighth finishers of the butterfly swim, as the touched the wall with timings of 1:03.61 and 1:04.45 minutes, respectively.
The crowd applauded for immaculate efforts of teenage swimmers in the 100m butterfly event, while the winners received their accolades after the session’s conclusion.
