Meg Bailey wins three gold medals in final session – Australian State Teams Age SC Championships
Meg Bailey of New South Wales (NSW) won three gold medals in the events of 100m  butterfly, 200m Individual medley (IM) and 200m butterfly in Girls 13-14 years old class, on concluding day of 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships. The
session ended on September 19, after its’ final session at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Canberra.
The arena enjoyed the wonderful efforts of 14-year-old Bailey, who clinched gold medals of first three events of the final session.
At first, Bailey won gold medal of 100m butterfly, where she clocked a miraculous time of 1 minute and 01.20 seconds. She was followed by Jemma Schlicht of Victoria (VIC), who remained prominently away from the gold medallist and submitted a time of 1 minute
and 02.86 seconds. Brooke Krause of Queensland (QLD) followed Schlicht on the finishing wall, by finishing her swim in a time of 1 minute and 02.92 seconds.
Next was the 200m IM, where Bailey again occupied the top of the podium for gold medal, as she reported a time of 2 minutes and 16.50 seconds. This time, she not only won the gold medal but she also improved the age group record of the event, by overwhelming
her own previous mark of 2 minutes and 18.96 seconds. She was followed by QLD’s Amy Forrester, who remained nearly one second behind and claimed silver medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 17.78 seconds. The third finest spot of the event was obtained by Elise
Pidutti of NSW, who completed her IM sprint in a time of 2 minutes and 18.64 seconds.
Subsequently, Bailey earned her third consecutive gold medal of the final night by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 14.39 seconds in the final of 200m butterfly. With her invincible effort, she remained nearly three seconds ahead of her following swimmer,
Krause of QLD, who submitted a time of 2 minutes and 17.58 seconds for silver medal. She was chased by Bailey’s team-mate, Pidutti, who surfaced as the third fastest swimmer with a timing of 2 minutes and 19.53 seconds.
The final event of the session was 200m breast-stroke, where Karlene Pircher of VIC secured the top of medal rostrum for gold medal by posting a winning time of 2 minutes and 30.06 seconds. She was trailed by NSW’s Karlee Franked and Elise Pidutti, who earned
second and third positions with timings of 2:35.86 and 2:36.02 minutes, respectively,
In addition, the session ended after the commendable swims of all participants in their exclusive events, while the winners collected their accolades after the session.
