Mega fauna extinction?

If the human species is responsible for the extinction the of the Mega Fauna and humans started out in Africa, then why did all the mega fauna in Australia become extinct before that of Africa’s?

  1. Good question. If humans were responsible for the extinction, then the answer would be because Africa's megafauna and hominids co-evolved over millions of years. Australias, New Zealands, Americas, Madagascars and nothern Eurasians megafauna had evolved to be adapted to ecosystems which didn't include hominids. Hence the arrival of homo sapiens was a huge disruption.


  2. Because humans had become meat-eating hunters by the time they starting migrating out of Africa...

    Australia is an island. By the time humans arrived in Australia (ca.60,000 years ago), it took them that long to hunt all the Mega-Fauna, which had no means of escape, and eliminate it...

    Africa is, and was connected to Asia, and it is much bigger than Australia. Also, Africa has more predatory animals that are unsafe for humans to hunt, such as the entire "Cat" family. Cats don't taste very good either...
