Megan Gianotti wins Girls 100m butterfly gold: Day six – Australian Age Championships, Brisbane
Megan Gianotti of Waterworx secured the crown of Girls 100m butterfly in the age group of 15 Year Olds on sixth day of the 2012 Australian Age Championships at the Sleeman Sports Complex, Brisbane on Saturday, April 14.
Gianotti stayed remarkably ahead of her following swimmers throughout the 100m discipline and gave no chance to her competitors to fight back.
With her epic performance, she stayed nearly one body length ahead of her closest rival and won gold medal of the event by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 01.12 seconds.
She was followed by Meg Bailey of Hunter, who completed her swim in second place by posting a time of 1 minute and 01.98 seconds for silver medal.
The third spot of the discipline was secured by Emily Washer of Carlile, who was 0.73 seconds behind her foregoing competitor and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 02.71 seconds.
Washer was chased by Jessica Hobbin of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who was almost two strokes behind and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 03.04 seconds for fourth position.
In the meantime, Edward Marks of MLC Marlins snared top position of the equivalent event in Boys corner. The 15-year-old Marks secured the title of the event by touching the wall in a time of 54.49 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Cameron Jones of St Peters Western Swim Club, who was almost one second behind and ended his swim in a time of 55.33 seconds for second position.
Jones was followed by Andrew Walker of Western Sprint, who suffered a loss of 1.20 seconds from his former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 56.53 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth spot of the race was obtained by Ka H Kwong of Hong Kong, who remained almost one body length behind and completed his swim in a time of 57.98 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all planned events while the position holders received a huge round of applause from the audience for their praiseworthy efforts.
