Megan Gianotti wins Girls 200m butterfly gold: Day two – Australian Age Championships, Brisbane
Megan Gianotti of Waterworx won the title of Girl’s 200m butterfly in the age group of 15 Year Olds on day two of the 2012 Australian Age Championships on Tuesday, April 10 at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.
Gianotti stayed remarkably ahead of her following swimmers throughout the distant butterfly event. With her immaculate efforts, she remained dominant over her challengers from the first lap of the race and proved her mettle for gold medal.
Gianotti remained almost two body lengths ahead of her following swimmer and posted a time of 2 minutes and 12.61 seconds for the crown of the event.
Her effort was trailed by Meg Bailey of Hunter, who stayed nearly four seconds slower and ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 16.12 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Jasmine Mills of St Peters Western Swim Club, who was almost two seconds slower and produced an effort of 2 minutes and 18.43 seconds.
Mills was followed by Karleigh Banks of Rocky City, who stayed just half a second slower and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 18.93 seconds.
Meanwhile, Joachim Bardrum stunned the audience with his fascinating efforts in the Boys 200m butterfly.
Bardrum stayed nearly two strokes ahead of his following rival and emerged on the finishing end for first position with a wonderful timing of 2 minutes and 05.35 seconds.
He was chased by Hamish McDougall, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 05.56 seconds.
The third spot of the race was secured by Samuel Fowler, who ended his swim with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.66 seconds.
Fowler was followed by Michael Mincham of New Zealand, who snared fourth best finishing spot of the event as he stayed 1.32 seconds behind his former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 07.98 seconds.
In addition, the arena enjoyed blistering performances of all participants in their exclusive events whereas the championship will end on April 14 after the conclusion of all swimming events.
