Megan Khang finishes third at the Girls Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship
Megan Khang missed out on a chance of winning the Girls Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, after she faltered for a six-over par 77 in the final round on Sunday, December 30, 2012.
A total of 33 female amateur players from different parts of the world contended against each other at the Biltmore Golf Course, which is known as one of the premier golf clubs in the region.
Khang marked a decent start to her campaign by carding a 69 in the opening round, followed by a 70 on day two.
Entering the last two rounds, she held a massive five-stroke lead, which sliced to just one stroke after she faltered for a 74 in the third round.
She still had the chance to take the title home by maintaining consistency in her game. However, she completely lost control over her game, and played poorly, especially on the greens.
She lost the top spot early in the round, after conceding bogeys on the second and the third hole. Meanwhile, Puerto Rico’s Maria Torres replaced her by draining a birdie putt on the first hole.
Khang lost another shot on the front nine – she bogeyed the eighth hole – to reach the turn in three-over.
The back nine of the course also witnessed her making a number of mistakes with her putter, as she failed to save the par at the 10th, 13th, 14th and the 16th hole.
Her only birdie of the day came at the 15th hole, which did not help her cause of making a charge to surge to the top of the leaderboard once again.
At the end of the day, she found herself settled two strokes behind the winner Torres, to take the third position with a six-over par overall score.
After completing her round, she looked really disappointed with her performance and said that her poor putting technique was the main reason behind her failure in the final moments of the event.
Torres, in the meantime, won the event by recording a par putt on the final hole, against Nicole Morales’ bogey. Entering the last hole, both the players were sharing the top spot. However, Morales’ mistake allowed Torres to take home the prestigious trophy.
