Megan Khang leads the Girls Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship after round three
Megan Khang faltered for a three-over par 74, in the third round of the Girls Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, on Saturday, December 29, 2012.
Yet, she managed to retain the lead, thanks chiefly to a five-stroke cushion that she had, after the second round.
The tournament is being staged at the Biltmore Golf Course, where a total of 33 female amateur golfers are contending against each other.
Khang got off to a shaky start, as she recorded two birdies, against the same number of bogeys over the first four holes that she played.
She then completely lost control over her game and conceded four bogeys in a row, starting from the sixth hole.
The back nine of the course witnessed her carding two birdies, against a lone bogey, to finish one stroke ahead of Puerto Rico’s Maria Torres, who fired a sparkling five-under par 66.
Talking to the tournament’s official website, she said that she herself did not know what was going wrong with her game.
The American said that she was playing well from the tee to the green. However, she was disappointed with her scorecard that displayed a number of bogey circles.
“I really don’t know. I was just in my zone today. Everything worked, especially putting. I only missed four greens and got up and down each time, twice with good chips and twice from bunkers. I just felt so good, so in control for the entire round,” she
said.
Meanwhile, she also expressed her pleasure in playing well on the back nine of the course, which allowed her to remain on top of the leaderboard.
“I think I went out with an over-aggressive mind set, trying to extend the lead early. That did not work out so well, but one thing, I did not get down on myself and I was able to finish strong,” she added.
Torres, in the meantime, remained bogey-free throughout the day, to make a strong charge on the leaderboard.
She started her third-round campaign at the shared ninth place and surged to the second spot, courtesy of five birdies that she scored.
