Megan Khang takes halfway lead at the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship’s girl division
Megan Khang of the United States carded a one-under par 70, in the second round of the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship’s girl division, to open-up a five-stroke lead, on Friday, December 28, 2012.
The tournament is being staged at the Biltmore Golf Course, featuring a total of 33 top-notch amateurs from different parts of the world.
Under tough playing conditions, Khang held her nerves tight and displayed brilliant set of skills with her game from the tee to the greens.
She got off to a decent start by carding a birdie on the first hole that she played. She then lost shots on the 7th, 11th and the 13th hole, to go two-over for the round.
Thereafter, she made a strong comeback by carding a birdie on the 16th hole, followed by an eagle on the 18th hole to break the par mark.
At the end of the day, she found herself settled way ahead of her rivals on the leaderboard. She was the only player in the field to post an under-par score in the second round.
Talking to the reporters after completing her round, Khang said that she was having trouble with her game on the greens, in the initial phase of the round.
According to her, she could have posted a better score, if she had availed the birdie opportunities that she created on the front nine of the course.
“My putting was not good in the beginning but improved as the round progressed,” the diminutive 15-year old from Rockland, MA explained. “Even so, I was two over by the 13th but managed to finish strong. I birdied the 16th, rimmed the cup for another at
17 then eagled the closing par-five”.
She now plans to remain consistent in the remaining two rounds, in a bid to finish the tournament on top of the leaderboard. She believes that her putting can play a key role in taking home the prestigious Junior Golf Championship trophy.
The overnight leader Delfina Acosta of Argentina, in the meantime, faltered for a five over par 76, to finish tied for the second position with Nicole Morales.
