Megan McChrystal earns her first professional victory through Florida's Natural Charity Classic – Golf News
Megan McChrystal recorded a final round of 2-over par 74 in the Symetra Tour’s Florida's Natural Charity Classic to earn her first professional career victory on Sunday, March 25, 2012.
McChrystal, the Stuart resident, entered the final round at the Lake Region Yacht and Country Club in Winter Haven with one-stroke lead over Seul-Ki Park. However, a double bogey on the par-four second hole took her lead away.
Yet, she did not allow her confidence to go away and birdied the very next hole to regain her momentum.
"It didn't really shake me that much," said McChrystal. "I made a double the first round and I knew I was striking the ball really well. I hit my drive out to the right a little and I just went to the next hole and birdied the next one. That got a little
bit of my momentum back on the next hole".
According to McChrystal, she tried to play her natural game rather than trying too hard to get back into the lost momentum.
Afterwards, she continued making par shots until a bogey came on the 14th hole, followed by another on the 16th.
That was a time when she again lost her sole lead to share the first position with her competitor.
Thereafter, she again bounced back with a birdie on the 17th hole to reach the final hole with a one-stroke lead.
"I figured I needed it," said McChrystal. "I knew there were people at minus three but I figured that was wrong and I wanted to get it back to five under anyway".
She then carded a par shot on the final hole to celebrate the first victory of her professional career. After her win, she said that she cannot express her feelings in words.
"I don't have any words right now, it feels really good actually," McChrystal wrote on Symetra Tour website. "I'm speechless, which is something different".
With this win, she has now earned the status of playing the upcoming events on the Symetra Tour in 2012.
However, she will have to confirm her place in the 2013 season with some more good finishes in the tournaments that she will play.
