Megan McChrystal roars to victory at Florida’s Natural Charity Classic
Megan McChrystal of the United States stunned the crowd in the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic, as she snatched a victory by one stroke on Sunday, at Lake Region Yacht and Country Club.
The American star rumbled to the top of the leaderboard after firing a 5-under 211.
Although she could not maintain her magic form in the final round, she still piled up enough scores to help her carve out a victory.
McChrystal had to face some resistance from her nearest rivals but she managed to hold her nerve on most of the holes.
The young prodigy was one stroke clear of Sara Maude Juneau of Canada, who came close to trampling McChrystal. Juneau carded a decent 70 in the final round to finish the match at a 4-under 212.
Seul-Ki-Park, who was grabbed the lead in the first round of the tournament, faltered in the next two rounds, tainting her scores.
Park carded a 67 on the first day and was confident to maintain her position till the last moment.
Park lost momentum in the third round, as she recorded an unimpressive 75. Analysts had predicted that Park would pose a threat to her rivals.
However, lousy strokes on some of the holes proved fatal for the American’s overall position and she finished tied for fourth.
Another nearest rival of McChrystal was fellow American Nicole Smith, who unfortunately messed up a few holes, finishing tied for the second place with Juneau.
McChrystal boasts a good profile, as she has racked up five titles at LSU. Thrilled by the victory at the Lake Region Yacht and Country Club, she said that she cannot believe that she has been able to beat some of the most talented players on the Symetra
Tour.
She said that there were several players in the field who put up a tough fight, but she held her nerve.
"I don't have any words right now, it feels really good actually," said McChrystal with a grin on the face. "I'm speechless which is something different”.
“It didn't really shake me that much. I made a double the first round and I knew I was striking the ball really well. I hit my drive out to the right a little and I just went to the next hole and birdied the next one”.
