Megan Melgaard pockets Women’s 400m freestyle gold: Day seven – FINA World Masters Championships
Megan Melgaard of USA pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle in the age category of 30-34 on final day of the 14th Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) World Masters Championships 2012 in Riccione, Italy on Saturday,
June 16.
The American swimmer served notice of her talent in the mediocre distance freestyle event as she sprinted her way towards the finishing end for gold medal of the discipline.
She showered her expertise in the eight-lap discipline and captured gold medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 26.50 seconds.
The champion was followed by Susanne Keller of Switzerland, who stayed nearly fourteen seconds behind and made her way to the finishing wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 40.20 seconds for second position.
Similarly, the silver medallist enjoyed an advantage of almost five seconds over Ann Wanter of Netherlands, who proved her mettle for bronze medal of the discipline by producing a time of 4 minutes and 45.05 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Giuseppa Zizzo of Italy, who was 2.60 seconds apart and ended her swim with an effort of 4 minutes and 47.65 seconds.
Zizzo was chased by Katja Rohrs of Germany, who stayed nearly half body length behind and snared fifth position of the event by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 48.29 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was secured by Angela Grillo Italy, who remained only 0.57 seconds slower from her former finisher and ended her swim with the timing of 4 minutes and 48.86 seconds.
Seventh position of the 400m event was secured by Elisa Elmi of Italy, who stayed considerably slower from her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 53.62 seconds.
Elmi was traced by her teammate, Eleonora Tagliaventi, who was almost six seconds slower from her and concluded her swim in eighth best place by posting a time of 4 minutes and 59.91 seconds.
Furthermore, the position holders were called upon the stage for medals and accolades at the medal distribution ceremony of the session.
