Megan Peterson earns Women’s 1500m freestyle title – 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals
Megan Peterson of PMST earned gold medal of the Women’s 1500m freestyle in the 25-29 year old age category on foremost day of the 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals at the CenturyLink Center Omaha on Thursday, July 5.
The 29-year-old Peterson served notice of her talent in the distant freestyle event and snared gold medal of the discipline. With her alluring efforts, she faced no difficulty in occupying gold medal of the discipline.
She gained a comfortable lead over her challengers from the start and completed her initial five rounds of the swim by touching the wall with the timing of 6 minutes and 34.95 seconds.
She was trailed by Mary C Young of UCLA, who stayed considerably slower from her and covered the equivalent distance with an effort of 6 minutes and 57.81 seconds.
Peterson continued her dominance in the subsequent rounds of the race, where she concluded her 1000 metres of the swim by producing a time of 13 minutes and 10.33 seconds.
Similarly, her strongest competitor, Young stayed more than half a minute slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 13 minutes and 59.37 seconds.
The leading swimmer showed no signs of slowing down and continued her supremacy in the final five laps of the swim. She went full rampant in the concluding rounds of the race and emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 19 minutes and 41.37 seconds
for gold medal.
The champion remained nearly three minutes slower from the meet record of 16 minutes and 39.77 seconds, set by Rachel Komisarz during 2001.
Subsequently, the gold medallist remained almost a minute faster from Young, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 20 minutes and 52.94 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Erin Mathews of MARY, who stayed nearly forty seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 21 minutes and 33.74 seconds.
Furthermore, Peterson was thrilled with her scintillating pace in the distant freestyle discipline and stressed that she will work hard to improve her timing in order to excel at the higher levels of international swimming.
