Megan R Romano clinches Women’s 50m freestyle title: Day one – 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals
The USA Swimming Sectionals got-off to a flying start with the scintillating performance of ABSC’s swimmer, Megan R Romano, in Athens, Georgia, United States, on Thursday, July 14.
Romano claimed the gold medal in the Women’s 50m freestyle, while Emily A Bos, Kristen N Wilso and Kaitlin M Kitch wound up first in the B, C and D finals, respectively.
Initially, Romano secured the 50m freestyle title after he touched the finishing wall in a winning time of 25.81 seconds. Laure Manaudou of Unat Auburn earned the second place honours in 25.84 seconds. Earlier, Manaudou secured the gold medal in the Women’s
400m freestyle relay finals at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. At the same Olympics event, she also grabbed one silver and one bronze medal in the 800m freestyle relay and 100m back-stroke, respectively.
On the other hand, Faith N Johnson of Star secured the bronze medal with a time of 25.98 seconds. Hannah Riordan of AUB finished fourth in a time of 26.00 seconds, whereas, Taylor R Schick of SA settled fifth in 26.37 seconds. Shannon N Vreel of ABSC surprisingly
wound up eighth in 26.78 seconds.
In another meet, Emily A Bos of AUB secured the first spot in the Women’s 50m freestyle B finals with a sterling time of 26.57 seconds, while Kelsey A Winter and Katherine S Huf of ASL ended their swim in a tied time of 26.58 seconds.
In the Women’s 50m freestyle C final, Kristen N Wilso of WA grabbed the first spot with a victorious time of 26.69 seconds, whereas, Olivia J Scott of AUB wound up second in 26.70 seconds. Jessica Graber of Gold rounded out the top three in 26.73 seconds.
The Women’s 50m freestyle D final was captured by DYNA’s swimmer, Kaitlin M Kitch with a winning time of 27.02 seconds. In the meantime, Natalie J Labon of Greensboro Swim wound up second in 27.06 seconds and Kaitlyn M Johns settled third in a time of 27.12
seconds. Jamie A Christy was surprisingly placed eighth in 27.30 seconds.
