Megan Romano occupies Women’s 100m backstroke gold – US Open Swimming Championships
Megan Romano of Athens Bulldog Swim Club occupied gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on fourth day of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Friday, August 10.
The 21-year-old Romano crushed hopes of her challengers in the double lap backstroke discipline as she showed her urgency towards the finishing blockade for the title of the event.
Romano faced strong resistance from Lauren Quigley of Great Britain throughout the discipline but managed to occupy gold medal of the event by clocking a time of 1 minute and 00.37 seconds.
Her title claiming effort remained just an inch ahead of Quigley, who was only 0.13 seconds apart and secured silver medal of the race by submitting a time of 1 minute and 00.50 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Noriko Inada of Phoenix Swim Club, who was 0.85 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and stood on the podium for bronze medal by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 01.35 seconds.
Similarly, Inada was chased Cindy Tran of Golden West Swim, who remained 0.18 seconds behind and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth best finisher by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.53 seconds.
The 20-year-old Tran was followed by Madison White of Crow Canyon Country Club, who was 0.11 seconds slower and made her way to the finishing end as fifth fastest swimmer by hitting the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 01.64 seconds.
Madison was trailed by Jessica Fullalove of Great Britain, who was 0.20 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and ended her race in sixth place with an effort of 1 minute and 01.84 seconds.
Fullalove remained 0.61 seconds ahead of Ellen Williamson of University of Victoria, who concluded her swim in seventh best place by posting a time of 1 minute and 02.45 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Samantha Corea of Canada, who tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 02.53 seconds.
Furthermore, Romano was extremely happy after clinching another gold medal of the tournament.
