Megan Romano pockets Women’s 200m backstroke gold – US Open Swimming Championships
Megan Romano of Athens Bulldog Swim Club pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on day two of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Wednesday, August 8.
The 21-year-old Romano showed no leniency to her opponents in the four-lap backstroke discipline and tapped the finishing blockade for the title of the event.
With her astonishing pace, she enjoyed a comfortable lead over her toughest challenger as she rushed her way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 09.08 seconds.
The champion was followed by Genevieve Cantin of Canada, who remained 1.23 seconds apart and secured second position of the event by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 10.31 seconds.
Cantin was traced by Karley Mann of Great Britain, who stayed 0.64 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and secured the podium for bronze medal by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 10.95 seconds.
Mann was chased by Kendyl Stewart of North Coast Aquatics, who stayed 0.58 seconds behind and finished fourth in the event by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 11.53 seconds.
Stewart was followed by Amy Forrester of Australia, who remained 0.81 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and finished fifth in the event with an effort of 2 minutes and 12.34 seconds.
Forrester was trailed by Ellen Williamson of University of Virginia, who suffered a loss of 0.05 seconds only and completed her race in sixth best place by touching the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 12.39 seconds.
The 19-year-old Williamson was traced by Kelly Ryan of University of Notre Dame, who remained prominent for seventh fastest spot of the event by posting a time of 2 minutes and 13.64 seconds.
Last spot of the race was secured by Madison White of Crow Canyon Country Club, who was nearly 0.60 seconds apart and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 14.23 seconds for eighth position.
Romano was pleased with her accomplishment in the 200m discipline and stated that she would try to achieve the same in upcoming events.
