Megan Romano seizes Women’s 200m freestyle gold – US Open Swimming Championships
Megan Romano of Athens Bulldog Swim Club seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on fourth day of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Friday, August 10.
The 21-year-old Romano, who qualified into the playoff as sixth fastest swimmer, exceeded expectations of her supporters by outshining in the final round.
With her alluring efforts, Romano showed no mercy to her opponents and tapped the wall for the crown of the event with an effort of 1 minute and 57.54 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by the fastest qualifying swimmer, Chelsea Chenault of Terrapins Swim Team, who failed to maintain her spot in the playoff and settled on the finishing end as silver medallist by reporting a time of 1 minute and 58.41 seconds.
Chenault was followed by Sarah Henry of Aggie Swim Club, who suffered a loss of only 0.14 seconds from her former finisher and ended third in the discipline by producing a time of 1 minute and 58.55 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was secured by Catherine Breed of Pleasanton Seahawks, who remained just 0.07 seconds slower from overpowering the bronze medallist and transpired on the finishing wall with an effort of 1 minute and 58.62 seconds.
Breed was followed by Jasmine Tosky of Palo Alto Stanford, who remained 1.08 seconds apart and occupied fifth fastest spot of the discipline by reporting a time of 1 minute and 59.70 seconds.
Similarly, Tosky was traced by Danielle Siverling of Unattached-MA, who remained 0.35 seconds behind and secured sixth position of the event with a timing of 2 minutes and 00.05 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Anne Bochmann of Bath ITC, who stayed 0.28 seconds behind and hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 00.33 seconds.
Bochmann was followed by Rebecca Mann, who made no progress in her pace and ended eighth in the event by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 01.34 seconds.
In addition, Romano expressed happiness over her title claiming effort in the 200m discipline after the session.
