Meganisi lands the Sportingbet Novices’ Hurdle
The intelligent flat racing genius and now the smart hurdler, Meganisi, and Aaim To Prosper, who had the debut at hurdle, gave in their best in the Sportingbet Novices’ Hurdle on 29th November, 2012 at Newbury over two miles and half a furlong.
The two fought for lead almost throughout the track distance, Meganisi, the 7-4 favourite and the Paul Nicholls’ trained, Aaim To Prosper, the second most favourite.
The Rebecca Curtis trained had experience over jumping while the eventual runner-up felt hesitant when taking the flights. With the much accomplished jockey, A. P. McCoy onboard, the favourite entry grabbed the winner’s prize money by the mark of 3 ¼ lengths.
The second to best was guided through the track distance by, Daryl Jacob, while making peace with the third position was the Colin Tizzard trained, Kings Lad.
Curtis' partner Gearoid Costelloe said: "He's a nice horse and AP said that two miles is his perfect trip for now. We'll have to sit down and discuss things, but he deserves to go into a Graded race now."
The race was a true achievement for the winner and the runner-up. Qualifying as the runner-up in his debut over jumps was impressive of the Paul Nicholls’ trained while Meganisi delivered right on to the expectations which were associated with him when sent as the most favoured entry for the race.
Future plans or targets for either have not been disclosed yet, but the race has put in front of the connections the true potential of both.
Galileo’s five-year-old bay gelding won the £32 Bonus At 32red.com Novices’ Hurdle on 10th May, 2012 at Wincanton over two miles.
The M. A. Sherwood owned qualified as the runner-up in the JLT Aston Park Stakes (Listed Race) on 19th May, 2012 at Newbury over a mile and 5 ½ furlongs. The race was won by, Hawaafez.
His other next to the best position was in the Morrison Utility Services Supporting Cancer Research UK Novices’ Hurdle on 6th October, 2012 at Fontwell race course over two miles and four furlongs.
It is time that the connections start looking out for the winner graded options and let the under charge take a shot at them.
