Megastar finally posts a victory for his connections in Hollywood Parks feature on 15 December, 2011
The Jay Em Ess Stable owned 5-year-old gelding, Megastar, finally bags one for his connections after a year and a half when he nosed out Uncle Sam in the $52,000 feature race at Hollywood.
The contestants broke through and a quick pace was maintained throughout the 1 1/16 mile test, and Megastar took advantage of it as the gelded son of Malibu Moon, out of mare Royal Veagess by Rock Royalty, cruised past his opponents to join Uncle Sam in
the final furlong of the race.
Megastar had one hurdle to overcome before rallying past Uncle Sam, and it was the newly blinkered, Bonfire Knight, as he disposed of him easily.
The 9 to 1 choice, Megastar, then stuck to the real job at hand, and that was to run down Uncle Sam which he successfully did in the final yards. Megastar gave trainer Ron Ellis his second win of the day as he previously won a race with Duplo Rapido.
He covered the 1 1/16 miles over the Hollywood Park’s cushion track in 1 minute and 43.33 seconds as he picked up his third win in 16 starts, which shot up his earnings to $146,670.
The Kentucky bred Megastar took eight starts to break his maiden, as he won his maiden special weight race at Hollywood Park on 8 May, 2010, over at 1 1/16 miles which followed by another win in an allowance race also run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles
at Hollywood Park.
He came in second in his next race at Del Mar at about 1 1/16 miles on 31 July, 2010, to winner Golden Mexico who downed the 1 1/16 miles distance in 1 minute and 41.13 seconds.
Megastar in his whole career participated once in a graded stakes race, and it was in the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap over a distance of 1 3/8 miles where he finished a dismal eighth to winner Champ Pegasus, who covered the marathon distance in 2 minutes and
11.93 seconds.
Before 15 December, Megastar was winless in five races, but he sorted that record right after his fourth race in the 2011 season.
