Meghan Haila earns Women’s 100m breaststroke gold – 2012 GSC Summer Invitational
Meghan A Haila of BSS-FL earned gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on concluding day of the 2012 Gator Swim Club Summer Invitational in Gainesville, Florida on Tuesday June 5.
The 16-year-old Haila stunned the aquatic crowd with her blistering form in the double lap breaststroke discipline. She dominated the event from the start and faced no difficulty in clinching gold medal of the event.
With her epic pace and commendable start, she sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 12.20 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained 2.63 seconds ahead of Bethany J Leap of SYS-FL, who proved her mettle for silver medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 1 minute and 14.83 seconds.
Third spot of the event was secured by Jessie Holley of JDST-FG, who stayed 0.43 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall for third position by producing a time of 1 minute and 15.26 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Sarah B Bateman of PA-FL, who was 1.38 seconds behind and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth position holder by reporting a time of 1 minute and 16.64 seconds.
Bateman was chased by Lindsey L McKnight of SAS-FG, who finished fifth in the 100m event by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 17.29 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was secured by McKenna V DeBever of BSS-FL, who remained nearly 0.35 seconds apart and tapped the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 17.65 seconds.
DeBever was trailed by her teammate, Tove T Bjork, who remained a half body length behind and finished her swim in a time of 1 minute and 18.32 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth position of the discipline was gained by Natsuko A Worrell of BD-FL, who stayed 2.26 seconds apart and reported a time of 1 minute and 20.58 seconds.
In addition, the championship came to an end after the conclusion of all planned events while the position holders received medals and accolades for their gruelling efforts after the session.
