Meichtry wins A-Final of Men’s 200m freestyle – 2011 Speedo Grand Challenge
The session two of the 2011 Speedo Grand Challenge got-off to a sizzling start with the captivating performance of Trojan swimmer, Dominik J. Meichtry, who nabbed the Men’s 200m freestyle title in A-Final with a sterling time of 1 minute and 49.42 seconds,
held at the William Woollett Aquatic Centre in Irvine, on May 27.
Clement Lefert of Trojan placed second with a time of 1 minute and 49.47 seconds, while Mads Glaesner finished third in 1 minute and 49.56 seconds. Stefan de Die settled for the fourth spot in 1 minute and 50.75 seconds.
Cal Aquatics swimmer, Tom A. Shields, captured the first place in B-Final of the Men’s 200m freestyle with a time of 1 minute and 50.57 seconds.
After clinching the first spot in the 200m freestyle in B Final, Shields was immensely pleased with his performance and gave the credit to his coach and assistant coach, David Durden and Greg Meehan, respectively. He credited the duo for his recent successful
performances in competitive swimming.
Tom Shields said, “I chose Cal because coach David Durden and assistant coach Greg Meehan are assembling a team of very strong young men...a team I want to be a part of. Strength and conditioning coach Nick Folker is awesome and I believe in the immense
power dryland training gives swimmers. I just knew between the school, the coaches, and most of all the team, that Cal was the place for me.”
Samuel Metz of Cal Aquatics wound up second in B Final with a time of 1 minute and 51.99 seconds, while Zane G. Grothe of Bch Heat Wave was placed third in 1 minute and 52.67 seconds. Chase E. Bloch finished fourth with a time of 1 minute and 53.45 seconds
in the corresponding event.
Alex Lendrum of Trojan claimed the sixth spot with a time of 1 minute and 53.57 seconds and Robert A. Hommel surprisingly finished seventh in a time of 1 minute and 53.86 seconds in B Final of the Men’s 200m freestyle.
