Melanie Klaffner cripples Chloe Paquet to enter semis – Djibouti ITF 2012
Austrian contestant, Melanie Klaffner, devastated the seventh seed, Chloe Paquet, with double breadsticks at the Djibouti ITF 2012 on Thursday. She penned down a 6-1, 6-1 victory against the French challenger to power into the final four at this ITF (International
Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Djibouti.
Seeded fourth in this event, Melanie Klaffner displayed top notch skills to outshine Paquet in their first encounter. After recording the victory in less than an hour, the Austrian comfortably cruised into the semi-finals at the Centre de Tennis de Gabode
4.
Klaffner stormed into this outdoor hard court event. She quickly winded up the opening four games before Paquet could come on the score sheet. The Austrian bagged the last two games and clinched the opener with a breadstick. She brushed off all three breakpoints
she came across and cashed three out of six break chances to inch towards her goal.
Ranked 434th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Klaffner maintained consistency in her game in the following set. She got the critical break in the second game and jumped to a 3-0 lead. After Paquet held her serve in the
fourth game, the Austrian unleashed her skills again and pocketed another breadstick. She was never threatened with any breakpoint and converted all three break opportunities to her advantage.
The 22-year-old has showed exceptional skills after entering this tournament. She received a first round bye after being a seeded player at this event. Klaffner then slaughtered the Indian contestant, Manya Nagpal, with double bagels to secure this place.
Paquet on the other side also slew her opponent, Alexandra Riley, in straight sets to reach quarters. She nudged up a 6-1, 6-1 victory against the American in around 50 minutes.
Up next for Klaffner is the top seed, Anna Floris in the following round. The Italian seed outclassed the Indian contender in straight sets to set up this encounter. She juggled up a 6-2, 6-3 score line against the eighth seed in almost one hour and 15 minutes.
Floris kept her entire serves with poise and broke her rival’s serve four times to prevail.
