Melanie Oudin dismisses Akgul Amanmuradova in the 1st Round- Texas Open 2011
Melanie Oudin had battled against Uzbek Akgul Amanmuradova on hard courts at the Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine, Texas. Oudin had won the first set 7-6(6) but in the second set  Amanmuradova retired and hence, gave the match to
her opponent in 75 minutes and 51 seconds in the first round of the Texas Open 2011 on the 22nd of August.
The two had taken to the hard courts once prior to this event at the Australian Open during the first round, where Amanmuradova had won the match in straight sets of 6-1, 6-4. The Game Master had given Oudin another chance to even
the score and restore her dignity.
The 19 year-old Oudin won the pitch and smashed two aces and struck two double faults, while, her Uzbek adversary had smashed no aces and struck one extra double fault than Oudin.
Both players had similar points in their serves and returns but Oudin won 69% of the total service points opening the set. However, Amanmuradova was unable to respond so well to her serves and thus, achieved 14 out of 45 points,
making it a 31% win of her total return points.
On the contrary, the Uzbek had a commendable display of serve shots aimed at her opponent and she won 65% of her total service points against Oudin who too was unable to hit most of her opponent’s shots and hence, won 35% of her
total return points.
Oudin’s performance was boosted by the crowd and her defence was strong which saved 5 out of 6 break points on her serve and managed to break her opponent’s serve once.
The game was pushed into a tie breaker both the players had duelled to win six points each. However, Oudin won the tie breaker by smashing an ace and named the set.
On the other hand, Amanmuradova had struck three double faults but was only able to avail 1 out of 6 break points hence, losing the competitive edge.
The home-girl (Oudin) won the set by accomplishing 51% of her total set points and by bagging 2 more points than the Uzbek.
However, the second set was briefly played because of Amanmuradova’s stomach injury and hence, she retired from the match, letting her opponent take a 1-0 lead.
Across the board in the second Oudin had targeted 60% of her first serves and won 80% of her total service points while her opponent was in too much pain to play and only hit a few returns winning 20% of her total return points.
Moreover, Oudin had 2 out of 2 in her total returns and won the first game by accomplishing 6 out of 7 points in the second set score.
