Melanie Oudin loses to Angelique Kerber in 2nd Round – Texas Open 2011
American Melanie Oudin got the boot by German Angelique Kerber in the second round of the Texas Open 2011. The two were competing for the first time their professional career on the hard courts of Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine,
Texas. 23-year-old Kerber ousted 19 year-old Oudin in a staright set victory of 6-3, 6-2 in 1 hour, 15 minutes and 44 seconds.
Oudin had won only forty seven percent of her total service points in opposition to Kerber, who served with a consistent exceptional serve during her first and second serves, which enabled her to win 14 out of 23 points, making
it creditable sixty one percent win of the total service points in the opening set.
Both the players had geometric precision and neither of them had struck a double fault instead, Kerber had aced during the game point of the opening set and won the set without much opposition.
However, Oudin was unable to hit back with a good return serve and was barely able to achieve thirty nine percent win of her total return points, while Kerber had a far better performance and hence, she won a commendable fifty
three percent of her total return points.
By accomplishing fifty seven percent her total set points, Kerber won the set with a 6-3 victory and was also able to break Oudin thrice, which was two more times than her rival.
As Kerber dominated the first set, the second set was also easily surmounted and this time Oudin nose-dived in her serves but saw a relative improvement in the return points, when compared to the previous set.
During the second set Oudin’s performance was boosted by the crowd and she achieved to accomplish a mediocre serve and return winning forty three percent and forty two percent respectively.
With a meticulous defence Kerber only gave a single opportunity for her opponent to break her, as she was able to save all her break points and instead, she broke her opponent thrice, whereas, Petrova was unable to save 3 out of
the 6 break points on her serve and mustered to win 1 out of 3 break points.
This time Kerber not only had a sturdy defence but she had almost double the points in the total set score of the set and won the set by accomplishing a praiseworthy fifty seven percent of her total service points.
By accomplishing a total set score of 32 out of 56 points, Angelique Kerber secured a berth in the third round of the event.
