Melati Daeva Oktaviani and Edi Subaktiar bag Mixed Doubles title at Banuinvest International 2012
Indonesia’s Melati Daeva Oktaviani and Edi Subaktiar delivered spectacular performance and bagged Mixed Doubles title at Banuinvest International 2012 in Romania, on Sunday, March 18.
In the final showdown, Oktaviani and Subaktiar showed their dominating skills and outplayed Austria’s Elisabeth Baldauf and Roman Zirnwald, who were the top seeds in the Mixed Doubles draw of the event.
The un-seeded Indonesians, who played remarkable badminton in all matches of the championship, stunned their higher ranked opponents and managed to win the contest in straight games by working hard for just 35 minutes in the court.
In the starting rallies of first game, both sides played positive badminton and kept the tempo quite fast. They continued playing aggressive game to dominate the pace of rallies but no side could manage a reasonable lead.  
Until the end of opening half in first set, both couples remained close on the score board as by playing to their maximum potential.
The score progressed equally in the concluding part of first set as both sides maintained the highest level of play.
They kept the crowd engaged by executing fast and powerful strokes in all areas of the whole set and reached at the ending phase without taking any advantage.
However, at this crucial stage, Oktaviani and Subaktiar showed their impressive tactics and scored the ending points to win the set with a tight 21-19 score on the board.
In the second game, both couples again put up phenomenal show of attacking badminton and continued playing at the same level.
They were not missing any chance to end rallies and earn points. Until the one-minute interval, the score was quite close.
After the break, Oktaviani and Subaktiar started to dominate the pace of rallies and managed a reasonable lead.
On the other hand, the Austrian couple failed to live up to expectations and remained trailing behind in the concluding phase.
Oktaviani and Subaktiar continued playing positive and dominating badminton and managed to win the set with a decent score of 21-18.
The Indonesian shuttlers emerged as the winners of this title match in straight games with a 21-19 and 21-18 score on the board.
