Look at all the cellar dwellers - all teams from Melbourne.

Fighting & arguing amongst board members....... Sacking & swapping coaches willy-nilly...... Performing dismally on the playing field...... Poor attendances at their games........ "Selling" home game fixtures........ the list goes on.....

  1. How old are you ?

What do you have agaisnt us Melbourne teams?

Well its oviuous why theres poor attendances because theres more then one team in melbourne.

If there were no melbourne teams there would be no AFL

    Get your facts right mate

  2. Molly, one of the main reasons the Eagles are financially successful is because it is in a two-team state, so obviously when compared to Melbourne teams it is going to have better finances and attendances etc. Also West Coast are far from being the perfect club, John Worsfold and the club are very lenient when it comes to disciplining their problem players, they barely did anything to Daniel Kerr when they found out about the taxi incident.

Also Brownlows are hardly an indication of how a WHOLE team is going, but if you must know they last won a Brownlow in 2003 with Nathan Buckley

  3. Sorry to contradict Rogue again but the Eagles won a premiership last year were the runner ups the year before have had 2 Brownlow medal winners in the last 5 years are the most most financially successful ALF club and have plenty of supporters and our coach was our Premeirship captain.

Unlike Collingwood who haven't won a premiership for years when was they last won a Brownlow I wouldn't know and stole their coach Malthouse in a underhanded way.

Also at least we know who our problem players are and address it  we don't pretend everything is rosy in our club.

  4. If you estimate it cost's 7 mil to run a club each year , 10 melb clubs = 70mil.  Perth 2clubs 14 mil Adelaide 2, 14mil Syd 1,  7mil Bris 1, 7 mil.   Simple arithmetic  suggest's 4 states are still 30 mil behind what is produced from Victoria .   Thats really embarrassing as you say, 4 state's, are still 30 mil behind what is produced in Victoria .    The only state also that can entertain 90,000 plus at one venue ...the MCG ..on Grand Final day.

The AFL established from Victoria , then set up teams in Brisbane and Sydney who both competed in the last 6 Grand finals before '07 .  When interstate clubs ever catch up or equal Victoria, and dont require Victorian players to prop up their teams,  with likes of Chris Judd , Jonathon Brown , Jed Adcock, Tim Notting, Luke Power ,Nigel Lappin , Barry Hall ,Peter Everitt, Adam Goodes ,Darren Jolly, Ryan O'Keefe, Nick Malceski,Chris Tarrant,Micheal Braun, David Wirrpunda, Ivan Maric and Chris Knights just to name a few , nobody can justify mentioning the word embarassement, against Melbourne clubs or Victoria !      Some what embarrassing also wouldn't you think , from 6 interstate clubs , 3 coach's, Harvey , Mathews, and Roos are Victorian born and Bred , what are you on about ?

  5. Wow ... it's just Melbourne?  That stuff that used to go on in my footy club here in Canberra or the cricket club or the fun and games at the Swans for years.... that's OK because they won premierships?  West Coast, Port and Brissie have all had their little spats.

It's also worth noting that 4 of the top 8 teams were 'Melbourne' including the Minor and Major Premiers (& Rising Star, Brownlow and Norm Smith winners :-)).  And last year people were asking that about that very club.

Interstate got 4 into the finals eventually but two of them only just scraped in and it could have easily been 6 of 8 Melbourne teams in the top  but for a few goals in a couple of games.

All clubs have problems, some manage it better and it's much easier to manage in a successful club.  Like, I haven't heard anyone calling for Bomber's head this week!  5 months ago the book was not about IF he would be sacked it was about WHEN!

Attendances are also easier to get with success.  Marginal supporters and new supporters flock to a club that feels good and there's nothing wrong with that!

But I will say Kangas still need to sort out their act for their fan base.  They have a fair few disgruntled supporters here in Canberra just after they started getting good crowds.

  6. Have you looked at Perth football lately? Drugs, drunks, bikies, crims, night clubs, police tapes, in-fighting, culture of denial at board level... the list goes on...

  7. still stirring the pot hey?!

I have just three words to contridict you:

    WEST COAST EAGLES!

  8. Rather than being an embarrassment, I for one love all the news that goes on.

This is not only associated with Melbourne clubs, it's a global thing to make life interesting. In fact I thought that footy never looked better, especially with Geelong supporters swamping their city for days on end.

Footy is a profession, so it's naturally going to have the politics of "who doesn't like who"attached to it.

Anything competitive is always going to have grievances and rumblings.

We only need to look at the cover of the Melbourne Sun/Herald today (Buckley) to see just how popular football is in Victoria.

Prior to AFL, this was called the VFL, but because footy was so successfull with being able to pull in the big crowds in Melbourne, the other states wanted to be included.

Granted fixtures etc, have become more organized, for want of a better term, however this is what happens when footy and other sports become a profession, rather than a player having a job to fall back on, in case footy doesn't work out.

The coaches also fall into this category, with all clubs wanting the best coach and specialist staff.

Board members can ruin a club if they lose focus and forget the reason that they are in the position for.  This is how unrest occurs,  which is not always a bad thing. So it's' better that there is "fighting and arguing", or some of the clubs would be left to suffer an unhappy team and supporters
