Melbourne one of the oldest Aussie rules foundation club's with Geelong, are at opposite ends of the scale, compared to the Cats who are "over" publicised with their own local paper the Geelong Addy . Melbourne, compared to the other 9 Victorian clubs, in the "sports capital of the world " are just NOT media fashionable, but why? Ever since Ron Barassi ' walked' to Carlton in 1965 it appears the Demons have undergone a "personality and charisma By pass".

  1. SORRY deedubya,i repect what your saying but im not sure id agree with you on this one,i think your right about Geelong which makes sense as they are in a one team town and a town/city that is obsessed with their success, the only other club that is over exposed is Collingwood which seem to be on the back page of the paper every second week and in it every other week, the rest of the Melbourne teams for my mind get about the same media exposure that being Richmond,st kilda, carlton, nth melb, bulldogs, hawthorn and Melbourne e.g Neil danahair (not sure of spelling) was on the Sunday footy panel this week.

  2. When I came over to Melbourne for a visit at the time of the finals all that was in paper was about Collingwood and they weren't even in them.

Its funny my brother told me that it like they were the only team in Melbourne and I thought he was joking.

Don't worry though Gary Lyons is doing his bit promoting the Demons on the Footy Show.

  3. The Dees are just not a very good football team, all in all since 1964. I agree with the previous answer, except for Robbie Flower, Garry Lyon and Jim Stynes as star footballers, the Dees have been destroyed in a few grand finals since the Norm Smith-Ron Barassi days, but have not been a real contender since 1964. They will get top billing in the Tuesday Age and Tuesday Herald Sun because their match with Collingwood on Monday is the Queen's Birthday match at the MCG, a stand alone game in the AFL for this day. The other seven matches were played Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Geelong won this weekend at Adelaide in a close match, so nothing else matters.
