Melbourne Rebels defeat Western Force in an exciting game
Melbourne Rebels have defeated the Western Force by 26-25 after a close contest in the ongoing Super Rugby championship played in Perth.
This was an amazing victory for the Rebels who had made their first ever entry in Super Rugby competition this year. They were suffering from the deficit of 15-3 at the interval but made an impressive came back during the second part of the game.
The Rebels are having a wonderful season after making their maiden appearance in the Super Rugby clashes. The match against the Force proved second consecutive victory for them as earlier they have beaten the Hurricanes in the last match. Two successive
victories have put them on number three among their home conference.
The Rebels looked down after trailing from 15-3 till the break but Danny Cipriani really rose up to the occasion. He scored tricky conversions far away from the goal posts, going in to the tries that happened first time for the Rebels. His try during the
closing moments of the game proved decisive and his team overcame a better opposition with minimum lead of just one point.
On the other hand, it was a terrible end for the Western Force that took the early lead. After 11 minutes in the game the Force were leading by 12-0 with two opening tries. They had a chance to win the game right in the end of the match as they got a try
with six minutes left in the final whistle but their flanker James O’Connor could utilize the opportunity. It was the fourth defeat for the Force after playing six matches in the competition. They have to produce good results in the coming matches to remain
in the championship.
After the match the Force coach Richard Graham said that he sure of his team’s success but in the end went against them.
He said, “I've got an unwavering belief that the way we're playing will win us games but at the end of the day you've got to build pressure. If you release that valve ... you always keep a team in it and then it becomes a lottery at the end of the game.”
The Rebels’ captain Stirling Mortlock was flattered with his side’s effort.
Talking to media in a pitch side interview, he said, “I am really proud of the boys. Two wins in a row, it's an unusual feeling for us. I've got to take my hats off to everyone ... we've all been learning on the run and slowly but we're showing our potential.”
