Melbourne Rebels hooker Ged Robinson ready to face the Reds - Rugby updates
Melbourne Rebels hooker, Ged Robinson, is ready to take on the Queensland Reds in their next fixture of Super Rugby. The match is scheduled to be played on 6th May between the two Australian derbies at AAMI Park. The Reds are topping the tables
among all Australian teams whereas the Rebels are placed at the bottom with the least number of wins.
Melbourne Rebels made their debut appearance in the Super Rugby championship this season as SANZAR allowed all member countries to include a fifth team early this year. The Rebels were lucky enough to make a place among the top sides of Australia. Veteran
Rod McQueen was given charge of the young team to make it a competitive side against the more experienced rivals.
Ged Robinson described the competition as very exciting and hoped that the Rebels would display a better performance against the top Australian side. Robinson said that the Melbourne Rebels are an inexperienced side but the home crowd will enhance their
game play. He added that every time they played at their home venue, the squad performed comparatively better.
Robinson argued that the forthcoming contest has a lot of significance as they have to fly for South Africa afterwards. The Rebels have to play a couple matches on Reeboks soil on 15 and 22nd May, against Bulls and Cheetahs respectively. He asserted
that it would be hard for them to tour South Africa without a victory since the sixth round of Super Rugby. He said, “We talked after the bye that we had four games before going to South Africa and about getting some points but we haven't got any yet so we
see this as a big game for us to get back on track”.
The hooker admitted that they were giving a poor performance in the ongoing Super Rugby season. The Rebels have won just three games after ten outings including a bye. On the other hand, Melbourne Rebels Assistant coach, Mark Bakewell, finds the forwards’
role very important to overcome the hot favourites Reds. Bakewell further said that if his team was able to maintain the pressure on the day, they could produce wonderful results.
