Melbourne Rebels not easy to defeat, warns Rod McQueen – Rugby update
The Melbourne Rebels’ coach, Rod McQueen, has cautioned the New South Wales Waratahs not to take his side light in their forthcoming Super Rugby clash. Rod McQueen vows that his team has improved manifold after nine rounds of championship. His side has grabbed three victories from nine outgoings in this Super Rugby season.
The Rebels made their maiden appearance in the Super Rugby this year and they were left l*****g their wounds by the Waratahs in the first match of the competition that they played. Waratahs defeated the Rebels by 43-0 to make their start miserable. However, Rod McQueen’s side has done comparatively better in the remaining matches and made an impressive comeback.
The Rebels’ attack has been impressive so far in the competition but their defense is not up to mark. Currently they are above all other outfits with regard to conceding points, with 322 points conceded in 9 outgoings. McQueen is well aware of this weak spot in his team and he said that he was already working in this particular area to minimise their defensive flaws.
He admitted that if a team had a poor defense like his owns’ it was impossible to carry the day against any team. He argued that such things can be expected from a brand new side.
McQueen further told reporters that he is sure that his side wouldn’t repeat the same follies against the Waratahs in Sydney. He claimed that the Waratahs will not be at their best after too many injuries and that would provide a fair chance to them to perform competitively.
The Waratahs have been deprived of their key players with various injuries. Their skipper, Phil Waugh, forward Wycliff Palu, and winger Drew Mitchell, have been ruled out due to various injuries. The Waratahs lost their previous match against the Reds due to similar problems.
The Melbourne Rebels have not revealed their squad for the upcoming clash yet since their skipper, Striling Mortlock, has been struggling with a back injury. The Rebels will take on the Waratahs on the 30th of April in Sydney.
