Melbourne Rebels sideline Danny Cipriani for one more game - Super Rugby news
Melbourne Rebels have sidelined their fly-half, Danny Cipriani, from yet another match of Super Rugby. The Rebels announced their squad today on June 1 for their upcoming match against the Stormers on 3rd June, in Melbourne, and Cipriani has not
been included in the playing 15. Cipriani is being inactive in the team since the end of April and his future is still undecided with the Australian derby.
The Melbourne Rebels yesterday revealed that they were in talks with the English player to settle the issue and hoped to retain Cipriani’s services for Friday’s fixture. However, the club has not revealed whether the player is willing to play further in
the conference or not.
Cipriani had left for England after he was sacked from the South African tour by Rebels. The club dropped him from their side for continuous breach of the club’s code of conduct. Cipriani is in troubled water since his signing with the Rebels. He signed
a one-year deal with the newly established Australian Super Rugby derby early this year but his contract seems to be ending before its expiry.
The Chief Operating Officer of the Melbourne Rebels, Steve Boland, told the media about the latest negotiations with Cipriani and said, “The Melbourne Rebels administration continues to work through a number of issues with Danny Cipriani and his management."
He further said that both the sides have shown their concerns relating to their future line of actions which is a cause of delay regarding the final decision on Cipriani’s future. He added, "These discussions are now moving in a very positive direction but,
at the moment, Danny remains unavailable for selection."
The Rebels have not given a remarkable performance in the matches played so far and they are currently sitting at last place in the points table. They will take on the South African derby, Stormers, on June 3 in Melbourne with the following team.
Rebels: Richard Kingi, Lachlan Mitchell, Mark Gerrard, Stirling Mortlock (capt), Cooper Vuna, Julian Huxley, Nick Phipps, Gareth Delve, Michael Lipman, Jarrod Saffy, Hugh Pyle, Alister Campbell, Laurie Weeks, Ged Robinson, Nic Henderson. Reserves: Adam Freier,
Greg Somerville, Kevin O'Neill, Tim Davidson, Sam Cordingley, Peter Betham, Afusipa Taumoepeau.
