Melbourne Stars v Melbourne Renegades – Big Bash League, 2012/13 – Match Update – Melbourne Renegades win by 9 wickets
In a match marked by an ugly altercation between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marlon-Nathaniel-Samuels-c74804, the Melbourne Renegades secured a 9-wicket win over the Melbourne Stars, in their Big Bash League match, played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on January 6.
Following an incident when Samuels attempted to obstruct David Hussey from taking a run, he was verbally abused by Stars’ skipper Warne during the Renegades' turn at bat. Both cricketers were eventually warned and fined, while Warne received a one-match
ban.
The match itself was a fairly one-sided affair, with the Renegades maintaining control throughout. The game kicked off with the Stars winning the toss and choosing to bat first, but the Renegades’ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Pattinson-c1321 (3-0-12-2),
assisted by Aaron O’Brien, Samuels, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Muralitharan-c1864 (all of whom picked up one wicket each), kept Warne’s team down to a middling final total.
Opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Faulkner-c1643 (23) were the only other batsmen who managed to reach
double figures, while Cameron White (17) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brad-Hodge-c1184 (11) succeeded in progressing beyond single digits, but failed to do much else.
The rest of the batting order gave their wickets away without putting up much of a fight, and by the end of 20 overs, with 9 wickets down, the Stars posted a final total of 146 runs.
Warne’s team continued in a similarly mediocre vein during the Renegades’ turn at bat, and the skipper was the only one who managed to claim a wicket. The Renegades, meanwhile, were driven forward by skipper and Player of the Match http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881, who remained
unbeaten on 67, and saw the chase through until the end.
Fellow opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Doolan-c983 (30) joined him for a 70-run partnership for the first wicket, after which Warne managed to take Doolan out of the game. His successor Samuels managed to contribute 17 runs after which he retired hurt after damaging his eye-socket
when he top-edged a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540 delivery through the grill of his helmet.
Finch, however, did not allow the chase to falter, and aided by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Nevill-c2180 (24*), took the Renegades up to 147 easily, with 9 wickets and 7 deliveries still remaining.
